Gene Turchi

1946 - 1993

Gene Turchi’s polo career began at Saratoga Polo Club in New York. During the high goal August polo season he was taught by many great legends such as the Pieres brothers, as well as the Laprida and Trotz families. His business allowed him to travel and thus he spent time in Argentina, Hawaii and New York. In Hawaii he was coached by our own polo legends, Tommy Campos and Tuna Sampaio.

Gene was a Trustee of the Honolulu Polo Club in its early years. Along with Lester Maruoka he became active at the Maunakea Polo Club when he built his polo breeding ranch, Ikekapanoe at Waimea. Gene was world renown as ad advocate for preservation and restoration of historic properties. Several of his projects in New York have received national acclaim. His love of life and his passion for polo and friends have been truley missed by all who knew him. Aloha no Gino.
